About Air Hockey

Air Hockey is a quick, top-down table game where you slide a round mallet to knock a puck into the other side's goal slot. The table is tall and narrow, the puck bounces off the side walls, and every hit sends it flying faster. Rallies are short and frantic, which is exactly what makes it fun.

It suits anyone who wants a fast match without learning rules. You can play against the computer alone or switch to a two-player mode and share one screen with a friend. A full match usually takes three to six minutes. A good run means winning the race to seven goals while giving up only a few.

How to play Air Hockey

  1. Wait for the countdown, then the puck is released near the middle of the table.
  2. Move your mallet into the puck to hit it toward the opponent's goal slot at the far end.
  3. Defend your own slot by keeping your mallet between the puck and the gap behind you.
  4. Each goal scores one point and the puck is served again from a spot on the scorer's half.
  5. Be first to seven goals to win. Tap the 2 Players button to turn the shared-screen mode on or off.

Controls

Keyboard and mouseMove the mouse over the table to steer your mallet, or use the arrow keys. In two-player mode the second player uses W, A, S and D for the top mallet.
Phone and tabletDrag your finger on your half of the table and the mallet follows. In two-player mode each person drags in their own half, so two thumbs can play on one phone or tablet.

Scoring

The match score is simply goals, first to seven. For the points posted at the end, a win pays 300 plus 100 per goal you scored, minus 30 per goal you let in, so a 7-0 win is the top result. A loss still pays 60 per goal you scored.

Tips and strategy

  • Your mallet can only reach your own half, so wait near the centre line instead of chasing the puck into the far corners.
  • Bank shots off the side walls help, because the puck keeps most of its speed and the computer often reads straight shots better.
  • A fast sweeping hit sends the puck much harder than a slow nudge, so swing the mallet through the puck instead of dabbing it.
  • The computer gets quicker as the score climbs, so build an early lead while it is still slow and then defend carefully.
  • After you shoot, drift back toward the middle of your goal slot. Staying out wide leaves the gap open for a quick return shot.

Air Hockey FAQ

▸Can I play against a friend on the same device?

Yes. Press the 2 Players button and the table splits in half: one player uses the bottom mallet with arrows or touch, the other uses the top mallet with W, A, S, D or touch. Both play on the same screen.

▸Does the computer get harder?

It does. Its mallet speed rises as it scores and also when you are ahead, so a comfortable lead will not stay comfortable for long.

▸Do my goals count toward the leaderboard?

At the end of a match your result is posted as a score, and it counts toward the weekly leaderboard and XP. Winning by a wide margin gives the highest number.
