About Block Fit
Block Fit is a calm puzzle played on an eight by eight grid. You are given three shapes at a time, such as lines, squares and L-pieces, and you place them anywhere they fit. Fill an entire row or column and it vanishes, freeing space. There is no timer and no falling pieces, only your own planning.
It suits people who like thinking a few moves ahead without any pressure, and a session can last from three to ten minutes. The run ends only when none of the shapes you are holding fit anywhere. A good run is one where you keep the board mostly empty and chain line clears together.
How to play Block Fit
- Look at the three shapes in the tray before you move anything.
- Drag one onto the grid. A faint ghost shows the spot, and a highlighted row or column means a clear is coming.
- Complete any full row or column to wipe it away. Clearing several lines at once pays much more.
- When all three shapes are used, a new set of three appears.
- Keep going until none of your remaining shapes fit. Shapes cannot be rotated, so plan around their orientation.
Controls
| Keyboard and mouse | Click and drag a shape from the tray under the grid and release it over the board. You can also click a shape to select it and then click the grid cell where it should land. |
|---|---|
| Phone and tablet | Drag a shape with your finger. It appears above your fingertip so it stays visible, and a pale preview shows where it will land. You can also tap a shape, then tap the grid. |
Scoring
Every block you place scores one point. Each clear adds ten times the number of lines cleared, multiplied by that number again, so two lines at once are worth 40 and three are worth 90. Clearing on consecutive placements builds a combo that adds five more per step. Big multi-line clears are what produce strong scores.
Tips and strategy
- Leave one open lane along an edge. A long straight piece often saves a run when nothing else fits.
- Do not rush to clear single lines. Setting up two lines that finish with one piece scores far more than clearing them separately.
- Check all three shapes before committing. The best spot for the big square may depend on where the small pieces will go afterward.
- Avoid scattering single blocks in the middle of the board. Filled cells stuck in isolated spots make it hard to complete any line.
- Keep clearing on back-to-back moves when you can, because the combo bonus grows each step but resets the moment you place without clearing.
Block Fit FAQ
▸Can I rotate the shapes?
No, each shape keeps the orientation it was dealt in. That is why leaving both horizontal and vertical gaps on the board matters.
▸Does the game always give me a playable shape?
Each new set is checked so at least one of the three can fit somewhere. The game ends when none of the shapes still in your tray can be placed, even if other pieces fit in principle.
▸Do the shapes get harder?
Yes. As your score rises, larger shapes become more common, up to a limit, so the board fills faster and careful clearing matters more.
