About Capital Quiz

Capital Quiz tests how many world capitals you can name under a ticking clock. Each round shows a country and four possible capitals, and you pick one. Sometimes the question flips and gives you a city, then asks which country it belongs to. The pool covers around a hundred countries from every continent.

It works well for students, trivia fans and anyone planning to look smarter at the next pub quiz. One game is twenty questions and takes two to five minutes. A good run keeps all three lives, answers quickly and ends with a streak, and you will likely learn a few surprising capitals along the way.

How to play Capital Quiz

  1. Read the question: either the capital of a named country, or which country a city is the capital of.
  2. Choose one of the four answers before the bar at the top runs out.
  3. The correct answer lights up green. A wrong choice or running out of time costs one of your three lives.
  4. Keep answering through all twenty questions. The time limit shrinks as you progress.
  5. The game ends if you lose all lives or finish question twenty.

Controls

Keyboard and mouseClick an answer button, or press 1, 2, 3 or 4 on the keyboard to choose the matching option.
Phone and tabletTap the answer you think is correct. The buttons are large, so it is easy to answer with one thumb.

Scoring

A correct answer earns 100 points, plus up to 100 more for speed, plus a streak bonus of 10 per consecutive correct answer that tops out at 50. If you finish all twenty questions, each life you still have adds 100. A perfect, fast run lands well over 4,000.

Tips and strategy

  • Answer fast when you are sure. The speed bonus is worth as much as the base points, and the time bar changes colour as it drains.
  • Do not guess blindly on the hard ones. A wrong answer breaks your streak and costs a life, so eliminate options you know are wrong first.
  • Watch for look-alike answers. Later questions tend to offer wrong options from the same region of the world, so Australia, Canberra and Sydney style traps appear.
  • Remember that big cities are often not the capital. Sydney, Istanbul, Rio and Zurich are common traps, and the answers are Canberra, Ankara, Brasilia and Bern.
  • Use the number keys on a computer. Pressing a key is quicker than moving the mouse, and quick answers earn more points.

Capital Quiz FAQ

▸How much time do I get per question?

You start with 12 seconds. The limit drops slightly with each question until it reaches a minimum of 6 seconds.

▸Are the questions the same every time?

No. Each game picks 20 random countries from the list and shuffles the answer order, so every game feels different.

▸What happens if I run out of time?

It counts as a wrong answer. You lose a life, your streak resets, and the correct capital is shown before the next question.
