About Crowd Gates
Crowd Gates is a lane-runner built on quick mental math. Your crowd of yellow dots rushes forward along a track, and every gate offers two choices side by side, such as plus 12 or divide by 2. You steer into the better one, dodge red enemy squads, and arrive at a purple boss whose health is shown above it. A bigger crowd than the boss wins the fight.
It suits anyone who likes puzzle-flavoured arcade games and rounds that finish in two to four minutes. Each run is a fixed ten gates, so you can improve by planning ahead rather than reacting. A strong run usually keeps the crowd growing with multiplier gates and avoids every enemy squad before the boss.
How to play Crowd Gates
- Begin the run with a crowd of 10 and steer toward the better half of each gate.
- Read both gate values before you reach them; blue gates add or multiply, red ones subtract or divide.
- Slide away from red enemy squads, because touching one removes that many from your crowd.
- After ten gates the boss appears and the crowd battles it automatically.
- You win if the boss health reaches zero while some of your crowd survives.
Controls
| Keyboard and mouse | Press Left and Right arrow keys or A and D to slide the crowd sideways. You can also click and drag the mouse across the track to move it. |
|---|---|
| Phone and tablet | Touch and drag your finger left and right across the screen. The crowd follows your finger and the side of the track it is on picks the gate. |
Scoring
Beating the boss gives 500 points plus 10 for each crowd member left. If the boss wins, you earn 20 per gate passed plus 50; if your crowd is wiped out before the boss, you earn only 20 per gate passed. The best scores come from a large crowd entering the final fight.
Tips and strategy
- Prefer multiplication over addition when numbers are large. Times 2 or times 3 grows a big crowd far more than a plus gate of similar size.
- Do the sum in your head before the gate arrives. A minus 4 is often better than a plus 5 if it keeps you clear of a red squad.
- Enemy squads sit in one of three positions across the track. Slide to a clear lane early, since sudden movement near them is risky.
- Never take a divide gate with a big crowd if the other side is merely small. Division can erase half of everything you have built.
- Crowd size matters more than speed. The track scrolls faster as you pass gates, so move calmly and commit to your side before reaching the gate line.
Crowd Gates FAQ
▸How does a gate pick its value?
Each gate is split into a left and right half. Whichever half the crowd is standing on when it crosses the gate line is applied, so position yourself early.
▸How does the boss fight work?
The fight is automatic. Your crowd and the boss lose members at the same rate each tick, so a crowd larger than the boss health wins.
▸Can a red gate ever be useful?
Sometimes. If the other side is worse or leads you into an enemy squad, a small subtraction can be the lesser loss.
▸Does the score count for the weekly leaderboard?
Yes. When the run ends the score is submitted and can count toward the weekly leaderboard and XP.
