About Fast Typer
Fast Typer is a one-minute typing sprint. A single word is shown in large letters, with the next word previewed underneath. You type it into the box, and the moment the letters match, the word flies off and the next one slides in. Each letter turns green when it is right and red when it is wrong, so you can see mistakes as they happen.
It is great for a quick warm-up, a classroom break, or anyone who wants to measure their typing speed with a bit of pressure. A round lasts exactly 60 seconds once you begin. A strong run is not only fast but clean, with a long streak of words typed without a single wrong letter.
How to play Fast Typer
- Start typing the word on screen; the 60 second timer begins with your first keystroke.
- Match every letter in order. The underlined letter is the one you need next.
- Fix mistakes with Backspace, because a word only counts when the whole thing is correct.
- Glance at the smaller preview word so you can move straight on when the current one finishes.
- Keep going until the bar empties and the time is up.
Controls
| Keyboard and mouse | Just type on your keyboard. The text box is selected automatically; use Backspace to fix a wrong letter, and the word is accepted as soon as every letter matches. |
|---|---|
| Phone and tablet | Tap anywhere on the game to bring up the on-screen keyboard, then type the word shown. Autocorrect and capital letters are turned off for the box, and the word is accepted as soon as it matches. |
Scoring
Each finished word gives 10 points per letter, plus a streak bonus of 5 points for every word in your current streak, up to a maximum of 10 words. A wrong letter resets the streak to zero. At the end you see words per minute and accuracy, which are good measures of how well you did beyond the raw score.
Tips and strategy
- Accuracy beats raw speed here. A wrong letter drops your streak bonus, and the correction costs more time than typing carefully in the first place.
- The first dozen words are short, then medium words start to appear, and after about two dozen words come the long ones. Use the easy start to build your streak.
- Read the preview word while you type the current one. Your eyes should always be one word ahead so that no time is lost between words.
- Do not look at the keyboard. Keep your eyes on the green and red letters so you notice a mistake the moment it happens.
- If you slip on a letter, stop and use Backspace at once instead of typing the rest and deleting the whole word, which wastes seconds.
Fast Typer FAQ
▸When does the timer start?
The 60 seconds begin with your first keystroke, not when the countdown ends. That gives you a moment to get your hands in position.
▸Does capitalisation matter?
No. Everything you type is turned into lowercase and any spaces are ignored, so you can leave caps lock on or off without any effect.
▸How is WPM worked out?
The game counts five letters as one word and divides the letters in your completed words by the minutes that have passed. Letters from words you did not finish are not included.
