About Flick Football
Flick Football is a tabletop soccer game played with flicks instead of running. Each side has three round discs, there is one small white ball in the middle, and you take turns pulling back on a disc and letting it fly like a slingshot. Discs and ball bounce off each other and the walls, so a good shot is part aim, part bank, part luck.
It suits players who like physics games and short matches against the computer or a friend on the same screen. A game ends when someone scores three goals, which takes about three to six minutes. A good match uses angles to slip the ball into the goal at the top while defending your own goal at the bottom.
How to play Flick Football
- On your turn, pick one of your glowing blue discs.
- Drag back from it and release. Aim so the disc hits the ball toward the top goal.
- Wait for everything to stop moving. The turn then passes to the other side, whether or not the ball was hit.
- Get the ball into the opponent's net to score. After a goal, the side that conceded gets the kickoff.
- The first side to three goals wins the match.
Controls
| Keyboard and mouse | Click and hold one of your discs, drag backward away from where you want it to go, then release to flick it. A yellow dashed line shows the direction and power. |
|---|---|
| Phone and tablet | Touch one of your discs, drag your finger back the opposite way, and lift to flick. The farther you pull, up to a limit, the harder the shot. |
Scoring
In a match against the computer, you get 100 points for every goal you score, plus a 300 point bonus if you win, minus 20 points for each goal the computer scores. Winning 3-0 is the best possible outcome. The score is not recorded in two-player mode.
Tips and strategy
- Pull back partway for control. Maximum power makes the disc bounce around and often sends the ball past your target or into your own half.
- The walls are bouncy, so bank shots work. Hitting the ball off a side wall can reach the goal from a corner where a straight shot is blocked.
- Defend with your discs, not just attack. Park a disc near your own goal mouth when the ball is in your half, so the opponent's shot has to get around it.
- Check where the ball sits after every shot. Often the best choice is a gentle nudge that lines up the next flick rather than a long blast.
- The computer gets more accurate as you score, so try to score early while its aim is still loose.
Flick Football FAQ
▸Can I play against a friend?
Yes. Use the 2 Players button to switch modes, which restarts the match. Both players then use the same screen and take turns, with Player 1 on the bottom half and Player 2 on top.
▸Which goal do I attack?
In both modes the first player attacks the goal at the top and defends the one at the bottom, which has a blue frame. The computer or Player 2 does the reverse.
▸Why can't I move my disc?
You can only flick when it is your turn and all pieces have stopped. A yellow ring appears around the discs you are allowed to move.
▸Do discs get pushed off the pitch?
No. Discs stay inside the field walls. Only the ball can enter the open goal gaps at the top and bottom.
