About Knife Throw

Knife Throw is a one-button timing game. A wooden log spins in the middle of the screen, and you fire knives at it from below so they stick into the rim. The catch is that every knife already stuck in the log becomes an obstacle for the next one. Hit one of them and the run is over, so you must wait for a gap to rotate into position.

It suits players who like short, tense arcade runs of one to four minutes. The controls are trivial, but the rhythm gets trickier as stages add pre-stuck knives and change the log's speed. A strong result means clearing several stages in a row and grabbing the apples on the log for bonus points.

How to play Knife Throw

  1. Look at the log as it spins and find a gap between the knives already in it.
  2. Throw when that gap is lined up with the bottom of the log, where your knife enters.
  3. Check the small bars at the bottom left. They show how many knives you still have this stage.
  4. Throw all your knives without touching another knife to clear the stage.
  5. Collect red apples by landing a knife on them. Hitting a stuck knife ends the run.

Controls

Keyboard and mousePress Space, the Up arrow or Enter to throw a knife, or click anywhere on the game with the mouse. You can also click the THROW button in the corner.
Phone and tabletTap anywhere on the screen, or tap the THROW button, to throw the next knife.

Scoring

Every knife that sticks is worth 1 point. Landing a knife on an apple adds 3 more, and clearing a stage gives a 5 point bonus. Stages ask for between 5 and 14 knives, so a few cleared stages already makes a score well above 30.

Tips and strategy

  • Aim to throw when a gap is a little before the bottom, not exactly on it. The knife takes a brief moment to fly, so you have to lead the spin.
  • Do not rush the throw. The log is on a loop, and the same gap keeps coming around if you simply wait for it.
  • The speed pattern changes by stage: some spin steadily, some reverse direction, and some speed up and slow down. Watch a full cycle before your first throw of the stage.
  • Prioritize the 3 point apples only when the timing is safe. A single knife in the wrong place ends everything, which costs far more than an apple.
  • Later stages start with up to seven knives already planted, so leave a bit more space between throws and plan the order of the open gaps.

Knife Throw FAQ

▸How close can knives be to each other?

Knives must be a clear small gap apart, about the width of one knife. If your throw lands too near an existing blade, it clashes and the run ends.

▸Is there a limit to the stages?

No. Stages keep coming, the log speeds up a little each time, and more knives are already stuck when a stage begins, up to seven. The number of knives you throw tops out at 14.

▸Do apples always appear?

Not always. A stage has about a 70 percent chance to include one apple on the log, and it spins around with the rest of the knives.

▸Can I hold the button to throw faster?

No. You can throw only one knife at a time, and the next one is ready once the previous one lands. Holding the key down does not repeat throws.
