About Lane Runner
Lane Runner puts you in a yellow car on a four-lane road, looking down from above. Other cars drive in, one or two at a time, and your only job is to slide into a free lane before they reach you. There are no brakes or throttle to manage, so the whole game is about timing and staying calm as the speed builds.
Each run lasts one to four minutes. It suits quick breaks and players who enjoy a simple dodging challenge. A good run covers a long distance and squeezes past a few cars at the last moment, because those close calls add bonus points.
How to play Lane Runner
- Look ahead at the cars coming down the road and find the lane that is open.
- Move one lane left or right to dodge. You cannot change lanes while crashed, and you cannot leave the four-lane road.
- Pass cars closely, in the same or neighbouring lane, to earn a CLOSE bonus.
- Watch for the 500 marker pop-ups as you reach each milestone.
- A collision with any car ends the run and shows your distance.
Controls
| Keyboard and mouse | Press the Left and Right arrow keys, or A and D, to move one lane at a time. Each press shifts your car by exactly one lane. |
|---|---|
| Phone and tablet | Tap the left half of the screen to move left and the right half to move right, or swipe left or right. Each tap or swipe moves one lane. |
Scoring
The score is your distance travelled plus 5 points for every close pass. A close pass is when you move beyond a car that was in your lane or the one next to it. Your speed climbs continuously, so distance builds faster the longer you survive. After 1500 distance, groups of two cars appear more often.
Tips and strategy
- Always look one or two cars ahead instead of staring at the closest one. Early planning lets you make one small move rather than two rushed ones.
- With four lanes you have room to spare. Rest in a lane next to a free one so that a single move is always available.
- Close passes give a bonus, but only take them when the gap is genuinely safe. A crash costs far more than the 5 points.
- Tap rather than hold. Each press is one lane, so quick separate taps give cleaner control than trying to slide across multiple lanes.
- When two cars show up together, find the two open lanes and pick the one nearest to you, so you only have to move once.
Lane Runner FAQ
▸Why do cars seem to arrive at different speeds?
Each car moves at its own slightly different pace relative to the road. Some drift down the screen quickly and others more slowly, so watch the gap rather than assuming they are all equal.
▸What counts as a close pass?
A car that goes past your position while it is in your lane or the next one over earns a bonus of 5 points. Chains of them in quick succession show as CLOSE x2, x3 and so on.
▸Can I move more than one lane at once?
Not in a single press. Each key press, tap or swipe moves you one lane, so for two lanes you make two quick inputs.
▸Does speed ever stop increasing?
Yes. The road speed rises with your distance until it reaches a cap. After that the challenge comes mostly from more frequent cars and pairs of cars.
