About Ludo Royale

Ludo Royale is the familiar race-around-the-board game for up to four colors. Each side has four tokens waiting in a yard, and the aim is to bring all four around the cross-shaped track and into the center. You play blue from the bottom-left corner, while red, green and yellow are controlled by the computer. A dice card beside each yard shows whose turn it is.

It suits relaxed, longer sessions of ten to twenty-five minutes and works for kids and adults alike, since luck and small decisions both matter. A button above the board switches from three computer opponents to just one. A good game means getting out of the yard quickly, using safe squares well and capturing a rival token at the right moment.

How to play Ludo Royale

  1. Tap your dice card to roll. You need a 6 before a token can leave its yard.
  2. Pick a token that has a legal move. Tokens travel clockwise along the outer track.
  3. Land on a rival token standing on an ordinary square to send it back to its yard.
  4. After your own path around, a token turns into your colored home lane and needs an exact roll to finish.
  5. Get all four tokens to the middle. The game stops as soon as you finish, or when the rivals have finished first.

Controls

Keyboard and mouseClick your dice card at the bottom left, or press Space or Enter, to roll. Then click a glowing token, or press its number key from 1 to 4. Space or Enter also moves the first available token.
Phone and tabletTap your dice card to roll, then tap one of your glowing, bouncing tokens on the board. When only one move is possible, the game makes it for you.

Scoring

When you finish you get 1000 points for first place, 600 for second and 300 for third, plus 20 for every one of your tokens that reached home. If the rivals finish first, you get 100 plus 40 per token you brought home. Finishing in front matters most.

Tips and strategy

  • Rolling a 6, capturing a token or bringing one home each earn an extra roll, so look for moves that do any of these.
  • Starting squares and the star squares are safe, so tokens standing there cannot be captured. Use them as resting spots when rivals are close behind.
  • Be careful if a rival token sits one to six squares behind yours. Those are the distances the dice can reach in a single roll.
  • You cannot overshoot home. A token in the last stretch needs the exact number, so keep a spare token to move with other rolls.
  • Rolling three sixes in a row loses your turn, so after two sixes you may prefer safe moves rather than bold ones.

Ludo Royale FAQ

▸Can I play with friends on one device?

No. Every other color is controlled by the computer. You can choose either three computer players or a single computer opponent with the button above the board.

▸Why can't I move any token?

Either you have no token out and did not roll a 6, or every token in play would overshoot the home square with that number. The turn passes automatically.

▸Does the game end when I finish?

Yes. The match is over once you bring your fourth token home, and your place at that moment decides your score.
