About Moon Descent
Moon Descent is a lander game in the spirit of the old arcade classic. Your little craft drops toward a rocky lunar surface with gravity pulling it down and some sideways drift already built in. A single engine and a limited tank of fuel are all you have to turn that fall into a gentle touchdown on a glowing green landing pad.
It rewards patience and light touches, so it suits calm players as well as people who enjoy a precision challenge. A game lasts two to five minutes because one hard landing ends the run. A good result is a string of clean landings in which you still have fuel left, since leftover fuel and a slow touchdown both add to your score.
How to play Moon Descent
- Look for the green LAND pad on the surface and note which way your craft is drifting.
- Tilt toward the pad and use short bursts of thrust, which push in the direction the nose points.
- Check the three indicators at the top left: fall speed, sideways speed and tilt. All three must be green when you touch down.
- Settle onto the pad with the whole craft within its edges, nearly level and slow.
- A good landing opens the next level. A crash or a missed pad ends the game.
Controls
| Keyboard and mouse | Hold Up, W or Space to fire the engine. Use the Left and Right arrow keys, or A and D, to tilt the craft. Ctrl+P pauses and Ctrl+M mutes. |
|---|---|
| Phone and tablet | Use the three buttons under the screen. Hold THRUST to fire the engine, and hold the left or right arrow button to tilt the craft. |
Scoring
A successful landing scores 100 times the level number, plus 2 points for every unit of fuel remaining, plus a bonus for how slowly you came down. Later levels are worth more, and fuel saved matters. A strong game is a handful of landings with part of the tank still full.
Tips and strategy
- Cancel sideways drift first. Tilt against your movement and thrust briefly, then straighten up, because landing with sideways speed above 25 counts as a crash.
- Fall speed must be under 45 and tilt under about 11 degrees. Tap the engine just before touchdown to cushion the last few meters.
- Fuel burns only while the engine is on, so coast whenever the pad is still far below. Short taps spend less than long holds.
- Level up and everything tightens: gravity increases, fuel drops, the pad shrinks from 100 wide to a minimum of 44, and the ground gets rougher.
- Do not tilt the craft past what you need. Large angles make the engine push you sideways, and you must level out again before landing.
Moon Descent FAQ
▸Do I get more than one try per level?
No. A bad landing or a missed pad ends the whole game. A successful landing moves you to the next level a couple of seconds later with a new landscape.
▸What happens when the fuel runs out?
The engine stops responding and gravity takes over. You can still steer the tilt, but you can no longer slow down, so try to keep a little fuel for the final approach.
▸Why did I crash even though I landed on the pad?
Landing on the pad is not enough. You need a gentle fall, low sideways speed and a nearly upright craft. If any of the three is too high, it counts as a crash.
▸Is the pad always in the same place?
No. The pad and terrain are generated randomly for each level, and your starting position and drift vary too.
