About Rock Drifter

Rock Drifter is a space shooter in the spirit of the old vector arcade classics. You pilot a small green ship in an open field, rotate to aim, thrust to move and fire at tumbling rocks. Big rocks split into smaller, faster ones when hit, and everything wraps around the screen edges, so danger can come from any side.

It suits players who like momentum-based control and a steady rise in pressure. A round runs two to five minutes, and every cleared field brings a new wave with more rocks. A good run clears several waves, keeps the ship drifting safely between shots and uses a few precise bursts instead of constant firing.

How to play Rock Drifter

  1. Turn the ship to face a rock and press Fire.
  2. Shoot big rocks so they break into smaller pieces, then clear those too.
  3. Use thrust sparingly to dodge, since the ship keeps drifting after you let go.
  4. Clear every rock to start the next wave, which has more of them.
  5. You have three lives; hitting a rock costs one and the run ends when they are gone.

Controls

Keyboard and mouseRotate with the Left and Right arrow keys or A and D, thrust with Up or W, and fire with the Space bar. Thrust adds speed in the direction you face and the ship slowly coasts.
Phone and tabletUse the four on-screen buttons below the game: left arrow and right arrow to turn, Thrust to accelerate and Fire to shoot. Hold a button to keep it active.

Scoring

Large rocks are worth 20 points, medium ones 50 and small ones 100, so the smallest pieces pay the most. Clearing a wave starts a new one with more rocks. A strong score comes from surviving several waves and picking off the small, fast fragments safely.

Tips and strategy

  • Aim before you thrust. Pointing at a rock first and firing in short taps wastes less time than spinning while holding fire.
  • Remember that friction is low, so thrust builds speed that lingers. Turn around and tap thrust briefly to slow down if you are drifting toward a rock.
  • After a hit the ship respawns in the center with about two and a half seconds of protection, shown by a blinking ship. Use that window to reposition.
  • Small rocks fly faster, so deal with them when few remain. Leaving several fast fragments nearby makes the field hard to read.
  • Use the wrap-around edges to escape. Flying off one side puts you on the other, which is useful when a rock is closing in.

Rock Drifter FAQ

▸Why does my ship keep moving?

The ship has momentum and only slows down gradually. To stop, turn around and tap thrust against your direction of travel.

▸Do bullets wrap around the screen?

Yes, shots wrap at the edges and last just over a second, so a shot can hit rocks on the far side of the field.

▸What happens when I lose a life?

The ship explodes and respawns at the center after a short protection period. After the third hit the run ends with a final score.

▸Is there a weekly ranking?

Your final score is submitted when the last life is lost and can count toward the weekly leaderboard and XP.
