About Number Slide 15

Number Slide 15 is the classic sliding tile puzzle. Fifteen numbered tiles sit in a four-by-four frame with one empty space, and the board starts scrambled. You slide tiles into the gap one line at a time until the numbers run from 1 to 15 in order, with the blank in the bottom-right corner. Tiles turn green when they reach their correct spot.

It suits puzzle fans, students practising planning ahead, and anyone who likes a quiet brain workout. A solve can take under a minute if you know the usual method or a few minutes if you improvise. A good result uses few moves and little time, since both reduce the final score. The scramble is always solvable.

How to play Number Slide 15

  1. Look at the empty space. Any tile in its row or column can move toward it.
  2. Tap a tile to push it, and every tile between it and the gap, one step into the empty space.
  3. Solve the top row first, then the next row, working downward so finished rows stay put.
  4. Leave the last two rows to the end and rotate the tiles in the remaining space.
  5. Finish when all tiles read 1 to 15 left to right and top to bottom.

Controls

Keyboard and mouseClick a tile in the same row or column as the gap to slide it. You can also press the arrow keys or W, A, S and D, which move the neighbouring tile into the gap in that direction.
Phone and tabletTap a tile in line with the empty space, or swipe on the board. A swipe slides the tile next to the gap in the direction you swipe.

Scoring

A solved board gives 3000 points, minus 10 for every move and 5 for every second, with a minimum of 100. The timer starts on your first move, so thinking before you begin is free. Fewer moves matter more than speed, so aim for clean, planned sequences.

Tips and strategy

  • Think before the first move. The clock only starts when you slide a tile, so you can study the board and plan your opening at no cost.
  • Solve one row at a time from the top. Then solve the left column of what remains, so each finished part never has to be disturbed.
  • The last tile of a row is the trickiest. Park it just below its slot, move the blank around, and slide it up as the final step.
  • Tapping a distant tile in the same line slides several tiles at once. This saves taps but counts as one move, which can help your score.
  • Do not undo yourself. Moving a tile back to where it just was wastes both a move and time, so plan two or three steps ahead.

Number Slide 15 FAQ

▸Can every scramble be solved?

Yes. The board is shuffled by making hundreds of legal random slides from the finished position, so a solution always exists.

▸What does a green tile mean?

It means that number is in its correct final position. Be careful, though, because you may need to move green tiles temporarily to solve the rest.

▸Does sliding several tiles at once count as one move?

Yes. A tap on a tile further from the gap shifts the whole line and adds one to the move counter.

▸Is there a hint button?

No. The game only shows the first-time tutorial, so planning is up to you.
