About Five Dice

Five Dice is a solo dice game in the style of the classic roll-and-score favorites. Each turn you roll five dice up to three times, keep the ones you like, and then commit the result to one of thirteen boxes on your score card. Every box can be used once, so the game is really about deciding where each roll fits best.

It suits players who enjoy thinking about odds without needing any rules knowledge beforehand, because the card shows what each box would score for the current dice. A full game takes ten to twenty minutes, and a good result fills most boxes with solid numbers and picks up the 35-point upper bonus.

How to play Five Dice

  1. Press Roll to throw all five dice.
  2. Tap the dice you want to keep; held dice rise and show HELD.
  3. Roll again up to two more times, or stop early if you are happy.
  4. Choose any unused box; it shows the points you would get, and green boxes score above zero.
  5. Repeat for 13 turns until every box is filled.

Controls

Keyboard and mouseClick Roll or press Space or Enter to throw the dice. Click a die, or press keys 1 to 5, to hold it, and click a box on the score card to score.
Phone and tabletTap Roll, tap the dice you want to keep, then tap a box in the score card to lock in the points.

Scoring

Ones through sixes score the sum of matching dice. Three alike and four alike score the total of all dice, full house is 25, a short run of four in sequence is 30, a long run of five is 40, five alike is 50 and chance scores the total. If your top six boxes add up to 63 or more, you get a 35-point bonus.

Tips and strategy

  • Aim for 63 in the upper section. Three of each number from ones to sixes gets there, and the 35-point bonus is worth more than most single boxes.
  • Use Chance as your escape hatch. When a roll fits nothing well, putting a mediocre total there costs less than zeroing a valuable box.
  • Chasing a run is worthwhile because a short run is only 30, but a long run is 40. Hold four in sequence and see what the last roll gives.
  • Do not use all three rolls every time. If your first or second throw already fits a high box like a full house, scoring it immediately is safe.
  • Highlighted boxes show the best available score. Treat that as a hint, not an order, since filling a low box with a weak roll can be smarter.

Five Dice FAQ

▸Can I score a zero on purpose?

Yes. Any unused box can be chosen even if it scores nothing, which is useful for sacrificing a hard box like five alike late in the game.

▸Is a full house with five alike allowed?

No. In this game a full house must be exactly three of one number and two of another, so five alike scores zero there.

▸Do I play against someone?

No, it is a single-player game against your own best score. There is no computer opponent and no second player.

▸Does it count for the weekly leaderboard?

Your total is submitted after the thirteenth turn and can count toward the weekly leaderboard and XP.
