About Solitaire

Solitaire here is the classic Klondike layout. Seven columns of cards are dealt from one to seven deep, with only the top card of each face up. Your goal is to build four foundation piles from ace to king in each suit, using the columns, the draw pile and a bit of foresight to dig out the buried cards.

It is a relaxed game for anyone who likes a thinking puzzle at their own pace, and a game usually takes five to twenty minutes. Not every deal is winnable, so a good session is one where you plan a few moves ahead and avoid burying useful cards. You can pick draw one for an easier game or draw three for a classic challenge.

How to play Solitaire

  1. Build columns downward, alternating red and black, such as a red 6 on a black 7.
  2. Move a card, or a run of face-up cards, onto a column. Only a king can fill an empty column.
  3. Build the four foundations upward from ace to king, one suit per pile.
  4. Tap the draw pile to flip one or three cards, depending on the Draw button, and play the top card of the waste pile.
  5. Win by getting all 52 cards onto the foundations. Use the Give up button to end a game early.

Controls

Keyboard and mouseClick a card to select it, then click the column or foundation where it should go. Click the draw pile in the top left to turn cards. Click a selected card again to send it to a foundation if it fits.
Phone and tabletTap a card to pick it up, then tap its destination. Tapping the same card twice sends it to a foundation when that move is legal. Tap the draw pile to deal cards.

Scoring

A card moved to a foundation earns 10 points, a card from the draw pile to a column earns 5, and flipping a hidden card earns 5. Moving a card back down from a foundation costs 15, and recycling the draw pile costs 100 in draw one or 20 in draw three. A win adds 200 plus a bonus of up to 600 that shrinks each second.

Tips and strategy

  • Prefer moves that reveal face-down cards. Each flipped card gives points and opens new options, so work on the tallest columns first.
  • Do not rush aces and twos to the foundations if you may need them to hold a column of the opposite colour later.
  • Empty a column only when you have a king ready for it. A column left empty with no king available just wastes space.
  • In draw three, you see every third card of the waste pile, so look at which cards you are skipping and plan to reach them on the next pass.
  • Recycling the draw pile costs points, so check every possible move before you go through it again, especially in draw one mode.

Solitaire FAQ

▸What is the difference between draw one and draw three?

Draw one turns a single card from the draw pile at a time, which is easier. Draw three turns three cards but only the top one is playable, so it is harder and rewards planning. Press the Draw button to switch, which restarts the game.

▸Does the game finish automatically?

Once every card is face up and the draw pile is empty, the game automatically moves the remaining cards to the foundations for you.

▸Is every deal winnable?

Not necessarily. The deck is shuffled randomly, so some deals cannot be solved. If you are stuck, use Give up and start a fresh game.
