About Color Sprint

Color Sprint is a reflex game built on a classic brain trick. A colour name appears in big letters, but the letters are painted in a different colour, so the word RED might be written in blue ink. Your job is to ignore what the word says and hit the lane that matches the ink. Your eyes want to read, and that tug of war is the game.

It suits anyone who wants a short burst of focus, since a run lasts one to four minutes. It rewards calm, steady reactions rather than frantic mashing. A good run is a long unbroken streak where the timer is shrinking and you are still answering well before it empties.

How to play Color Sprint

  1. Look at the colour of the letters, not the meaning of the word.
  2. Tap the lane that has that colour. The lanes are red, blue, green and yellow, from left to right.
  3. Answer before the bar above the word runs out.
  4. A wrong lane or a timeout costs one of your three hearts, and the correct lane flashes so you can learn.
  5. Keep going until the hearts are gone. Each new word comes a little faster.

Controls

Keyboard and mousePress 1, 2, 3 or 4 for the lanes in order, or use the arrow keys: left for red, down for blue, up for green and right for yellow. You can also click the lanes.
Phone and tabletTap the big coloured lane at the bottom of the screen that matches the ink colour of the word. Each lane reacts the moment your finger touches it.

Scoring

Each correct answer is worth 10 points plus 2 for every answer in your current streak, with the streak bonus capped at 10 answers, so a hit is worth 30 at best. A miss resets the streak to zero. Staying accurate for a long time beats being fast but sloppy.

Tips and strategy

  • Say the ink colour in your head before you look for the lane. It breaks the habit of reading the word and speeds up your answer.
  • Learn the lane order so you do not need to find the colour. Red, blue, green, yellow from left to right becomes automatic after a few runs.
  • On a computer, rest four fingers on the number keys or arrows. It is quicker than aiming a mouse and keeps your eyes on the word.
  • The time limit starts at three seconds and shrinks with every word, down to under one second. Answer as soon as you are sure instead of waiting.
  • Protect your streak first. A single mistake loses a heart and the streak bonus together, so accuracy matters more than a rushed answer.

Color Sprint FAQ

▸Why does the word sometimes match its colour?

Most words are a mismatch, but around one in five can match by chance. When they do, the answer is simply that colour, so the rule never changes.

▸What does the hint outline mean?

After a mistake, the lane you should have tapped is highlighted for a moment. It is just feedback, and the game then moves on to the next word.

▸Is there an end to the game?

No fixed end. Words keep coming and the timer keeps shrinking until it levels off at a little under a second. The run ends when you lose your third heart.
