About Echo Pattern
Echo Pattern tests your short-term memory with four glowing pads in red, green, blue and yellow. The game plays a short sequence of lights and tones, and you tap the same pads in the same order. Each time you succeed, the game repeats the whole sequence and tacks one new pad on the end, so the chain grows longer every round.
A run takes two to five minutes and needs no equipment beyond your ears and eyes. It suits anyone who likes brain-training style games. A good run means hearing the sequence as a little tune, which makes it easier to hold than a list of colours.
How to play Echo Pattern
- Wait while the centre says Watch and the pads light up in order.
- When the centre reads Your turn, repeat the sequence from the first pad.
- Follow the ring in the middle, which fills as you enter each correct step.
- Finish the sequence correctly to clear the round. A short pause follows, then the game replays the sequence with one extra pad.
- Tap a wrong pad at any point and the run ends with the round you reached.
Controls
| Keyboard and mouse | Click a pad with the mouse, or press the number keys 1 to 4. Q, W, S and A also work, mapping to top-left, top-right, bottom-right and bottom-left. |
|---|---|
| Phone and tablet | Tap the coloured pad you want. Each of the four pads is a quarter of the circle, so large taps work fine. |
Scoring
You earn 10 points for each round you complete, so the score is simply the number of finished rounds times ten. The round you fail on does not count. Sequences also play faster as the rounds go up, up to a fixed limit, so deeper rounds ask for sharper attention.
Tips and strategy
- Listen as well as watch. Each pad has its own note, and the sequence often becomes easier to remember as a short melody.
- Chunk the sequence into groups of three or four steps, in the way you remember a phone number, instead of memorising every colour one by one.
- Say the colours quietly under your breath as they flash. Saying them out loud or in your head ties the order to words rather than only to the visuals.
- Use the ring in the centre to see how far you are. If you lose your place, a wrong tap ends the run, so pause and think before tapping.
- Keep your hand over the pad area and rest your eyes on the middle. This helps you see all four pads at once rather than hunting for each.
Echo Pattern FAQ
▸Is the pattern the same each round?
Within a run, yes. The game keeps your sequence and adds one random pad at the end each round, so you always repeat what you already learned plus one new step.
▸Is there a time limit for tapping?
Nothing in the game forces you to hurry once it says Your turn, so you can take a moment. The only way to lose is by pressing a wrong pad.
▸Which keys match which pads?
The keys 1, 2, 3 and 4 map to top-left, top-right, bottom-right and bottom-left. Q, W, S and A map to the same four pads in that order.
▸Does it get faster?
Yes. The lights flash a little quicker as the rounds increase, until they reach a minimum duration, so later rounds feel brisk even though the rules do not change.
