About Tap Dash

Tap Dash is a button-mashing sprint with a twist. A yellow runner heads along a sunset track while a glowing rival chases from behind. Your speed comes from tapping LEFT and RIGHT in strict alternation, like a runner's footsteps, and the speed fades quickly if you stop. Tap the same side twice and the runner stumbles.

It is a good pick for a short break, with runs of one to five minutes, and it works well on both phones and keyboards. What matters most is rhythm. A strong run is a steady, even beat that builds a bonus streak, keeps the gap to your rival wide, and carries you a long way down the track.

How to play Tap Dash

  1. Tap one side, then the other. The button that should come next glows to remind you.
  2. Keep your taps evenly spaced; an even rhythm adds a bonus to your speed.
  3. Never tap the same side twice in a row, or the runner stumbles and loses speed.
  4. Watch the gap bar near the top, which shows how far ahead of the rival you are.
  5. Run as far as you can before the rival catches up and ends the run.

Controls

Keyboard and mouseAlternate the left and right arrow keys, or A and D, or Z and X. The slash key also works for the right side. Each key press counts as a single step.
Phone and tabletTap the big LEFT button, then the RIGHT button, and keep swapping sides. The left half of the screen counts as left and the right half as right.

Scoring

Your score is the distance you run, counted in metres and shown at the top. Faster taps raise your speed, and a steady rhythm adds extra speed on every step. The rival speeds up the longer the run lasts, so stronger scores need both fast and consistent tapping, not just frantic mashing.

Tips and strategy

  • Pick a comfortable beat and hold it. The bonus rewards steps that are evenly spaced, so a calm steady pace is worth more than random bursts of speed.
  • Never tap the same side twice. A stumble halves your speed and blocks input for under half a second, which is often enough for the rival to close in.
  • Use two fingers, one per side. Switching one finger between buttons is slower and more error-prone than letting each hand own one side.
  • Keep an eye on the gap bar. It turns red when the rival is close, so that is your cue to focus on speed and stop worrying about style.
  • Your speed falls steadily when you pause, so do not stop to look around. Even a brief gap in tapping can cost you several metres of lead.

Tap Dash FAQ

▸What happens if I tap the same side twice?

The runner stumbles. Your speed is cut in half, your rhythm streak resets, and you cannot move for a fraction of a second. Alternating sides is the whole trick.

▸How does the rhythm bonus work?

When the time between your last two taps is almost exactly the same as the time before it, your streak grows and each step adds more speed. Uneven tapping resets the streak.

▸Why does the rival get harder to escape?

The rival starts slow and gradually speeds up during the first minute or two, until it reaches a top speed. Your speed also slowly drains, so you need steady tapping to keep ahead.
